Ummi said this is a du'a. There is a pattern in this
Praying for yourself, then your brethren, then asking for love towards your brethren.
You >> Brethren >> You and Brethren
It's like when you are threading a necklace with multi-colored assorted lame plastic pony beads, and your pattern is: pink, blue, then two purples.
Relating this to my own life....
I HATE ALL MY BRETHREN!!!
No, just kidding, brethren. Listen. When asking for forgiveness (typically), it is for yourself. This is what Ummi called 'unique.' While asking for forgiveness for yourself, you add your BRETHREN in the du'a. Then you ask for yourself to love your brethren.
i.e......
S: N, go clean the potty! It looks so disgusting and I won't use it until you clean it! I feel like barfing just talking about it! You guys are so unsanitary! I never dirty the potty. (and on and on and on)
N: [fumes] (thinks) I'm not your SLAVE, dummy! Seriously! Being in class for six hours four days a week is really making her spoiled. She expects us to make breakfast for her, tells me to bring water for her... (and on and on and on and on)
N: [cleans potty and washes hands] You can go pee now, S.
S: [goes] AAAAAAAAAAAAAHH! A cockroach! You guys are so unsanitary that COCKROACHES come to the bathroom! N! Get it out!
N: [asks for forgiveness for having grudge against her
Note that this was based on a true story.
